Ovo’s Rustic Pack: Redemption

Ovo’s Rustic Pack: Redemption

Some texture packs take remodeling to extreme levels. They change things around so much that you wouldn't even recognize the game as Minecraft. Others just put up original Minecraft textures at different resolutions, or make so few alterations to the original textures they may as well not have done it at all. Rustic Pack goes for a happy medium by altering the look of the original Minecraft textures while keeping the same feel.

At 64×64 resolution, Rustic Redemption looks pretty good up close, especially when it comes to the specially textured blocks like wool, which even has fuzzy edges for added “realism”. The craggy cobblestone pattern has been replaced with a more presentable and much more aesthetically pleasing cinderblock pattern. This makes your buildings look like something you actually took time to build and not just something you stuck together with crazy glue. The saplings like especially pretty. The thick trunks remind of bonsai, and look more like real trees than the actual full-grown ones. The weakest textures of the bunch would have to be the ores. Sadly, some of the ores look flat, others look like they were just splashed with a paintbrush. The quality is inconsistent, and there are times when I encountered a new ore texture for the first time and had no idea what I was mining.

Overall, Ovo's Rustic Pack is a nice play on the original Minecraft textures. It's different, but not overly so. This is great for someone who wants a better looking game but still wants the Minecraft look and feel.
